Who Can Use Mouthwash?
Even for teenagers and adults, not all mouthwashes are appropriate, according to the Dental Surgeon.
She said this in an exclusive interview on Monday, March 20, at the Duala Medical Centre’s celebration of World Oral Health Day 2023 in Burma Camp, Accra.
“We don’t recommend mouthwash for children because there’s a high chance they’ll swallow it,” she said, advising parents to seek early oral health interventions for their children as soon as possible to avoid aggravation and costly interventions.
“When you visit your dentist, recommendations will be made based on what the dentist finds in your child’s mouth,” she added.
Teenagers, she says, “can use mouthwash, but as I said, when you go and see your dentist, a recommendation will be made because there are different types of mouthwashes on the market [each with their own unique usage].”
“Alcohol-based ones tend to dry out your mouth and are not recommended for everyone.” “She elaborated. “As a result, your dentist is the best person to tell you what works best for you.”
The theme of the 2023 World Oral Health Day celebration was “Be Proud of Your Mouth.”
